This is why I don't use felt, and generally choose Typar.. Instead of using housewrap, I'm thinking of covering the wall sheathing with a waterproof synthetic roofing underlayment so that any water that does get behind the siding won't go any further.. The majority of house wrap you will find now is a lightweight, synthetic material primarily designed to be placed between the siding and the sheathing. Say that house wrap in not required under vinyl siding however, alot of people are using it under vinyl siding and there is a debate seeming to begin to. I just pulled some vinyl siding installed 1990 with Tyvek under it.
I'd rather not use the flashing because it will make it obvious the siding isn't really stucco.
